Our experience with National Benchmarking

Regulators in Jordan, Ghana, Tunisia, Senegal, Nigeria and South Africa have worked with IFC to conduct system-level diagnostics and develop roadmaps for improving the career preparedness and relevance of programs nationwide. These national benchmarking exercises usually take 3 to 4 months to complete, and can be rolled out concurrently with IFC’s Digital Maturity in Higher Education Benchmarking. Working closely with government counterparts, the IFC team will:

Select a Sector & Framework

Identify the sample of private and public sector institutions to be included in the benchmarking and agree on the data collection methodology.

Collect & Validate Data

Confidentially collect and validate the data with participating institutions through IFC’s proprietary Employability Benchmarking Tool.

Analyze & Compare Benchmarks

Prepare individual institutional reports for each participating institution comparing their results against national averages and global benchmarks.

Recommendations &
Key Findings

Share a regulator diagnostic report with key findings, best practices, strengths, and improvement opportunities for government and higher education stakeholders.

Support Implementation

Support implementation of recommendations with regulators and participating institutions to drive continuous improvement and measurable outcomes.

About the National Benchmarking

Changes in labor markets are accentuating existing gaps between employer needs and the competencies of young graduates. Yet, only 19% of higher education institutions in emerging markets engage employers in regular curriculum review to align with market needs.

IFC Vitae’s national employability benchmarking tool equips regulators with reliable system-level data to identify practical actions to improve graduate employment outcomes. The tool compares institutional performance on key indicators of employability against national and global peers in emerging markets. It also leverages Vitae’s global experience to assess priority interventions.

Over 150 higher education institutions are included in the database – these are institutions that have either completed a Vitae 360 assessment or participated in other national benchmarking exercises.
